Biography:
I'm a clinical psychologist, consultant, and trainer with over twenty years experience working with public safety personnel, their agencies, and their families. I've written two books. "I Love a Cop: What Police Families Need to Know" and "I Love a Fire Fighter: What the Family Needs to Know" (2004). "I Love a Cop" was first published in 1997. A revised--post 9/11, post Katrina--edition was released in 2007. It has sold more than 85,000 copies and is used worldwide in police and spousal academies.

I'm co-founder, along with Dr. Lorraine Greene, of the website, policefamilies.com, funded by a grant from the National Institute of Justice. In 2000 I had the honor to be named Woman of Distinction by the Police Chiefs Spouses Worldwide. In 2002, I completed the Greater Cincinnati Media Fire Academy as part of my research for the fire fighter book. I belong to several organizations: the psychological services sub-section of the International Association of Police Chiefs; The American Psychological Association (Division 18; Police and Public Safety); The Society for Police and Criminal Psychology; and Women in the Fire Service.

I travel world-wide giving workshops, seminars and keynote speeches. Here is a sample of some of my workshops: "Bringing it Home: Strengthening Your Police Family-a Workshop for Couples"; "Target Hardening: Self-care Skills for Police Officers" ; "The First Responder's First Responder: Creating Effective Family Orientations"; and "Healing Our Protectors: A Workshop for Clinicians Who Treat First Responders." Contact me via email for more information.

People always ask if I'm married to a cop because of the title of my book. I'm not, I'm married to a remodeling contractor. But I do love a fire fighter, my older brother, who served as a volunteer fire fighter for sixteen years.
